MY DANCE PRACTICE

Connection - Collaboration - Articulation - Musicality - Subtleties - Sensitivity

Marla is a  Welsh freelance dance artist. She graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2019, where she gained a First Class BA(Hons) Degree, and performed works by Charlie Morrissey, Humanhood, and Antonia Grove along with self-choreographed solo works.

Through her training, she developed her interest in improvisation practices; especially exploring rhythms, articulations and impulses within the body and sharing personality through movement. Music provides a strong source of inspiration, along with the natural world, poetry and working with sensation.

Upon graduating, Marla worked as an apprentice dancer with National Dance Company Wales, touring and performing, working with choreographers including Alexandra Waierstall, Fearghus O’Conchuir, Nikita Goille, Ed Myhill and Anthony Matsena. She is also developing her teaching practice, as there's so much value and fulfillment in sharing and exchanging knowledge with others finding joy and connection through movement.

Marla thrives in collaboration; it’s such a fulfilling process which takes you to many unexpected places, offers so much learning and exploration, along with the opportunity to connect with many inspiring artists and a wider array of people through the work.
