EPISODE 1 HAS BEEN RELEASED!

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

Hello lovely people! I just wanted to let you know that the first episode of A Little Bit of Lagom is now available to listen to on Spotify!

In this first episode, I talk about why I’m starting this podcast, what the term Lagom actually means, how I stumbled upon the concept, as well as what I want to focus on within these podcasts, and what I hope it can bring to those who listen to it. I also tell you a bit about who I am, and why this concept of Lagom resonated with me and impacts on the way I try to live.

So basically it’s a bit of an introductory ramble, skimming over a few aspects I’ll delve into more in future episodes, to just give you a little insight into where I’ll be taking you in this podcast, and what is ultimately at the root of all these different aspects – looking for ways to find a more balanced, sustainable and mindful approach to living (more ethical and meaningful too).

Topics will include, but not be limited to, environmentalism, veganism, work-life balance, health, wellness, cruelty free practices, sustainability, and how we can make small, practical changes in our lives to support positive change in a way that feels possible and achievable.

Here are some of the links/resources mentioned in the episode if you’d like to check them out:

Lagom – the Swedish art of balanced living by Linnea Dunne. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35099236-lagom

This is the book my sister very kindly bought me a few years ago, which she rightly assumed I’d love. After reading the book it resonated with me so much, and really stuck with me. I think it also led me to read other books that always seemed to come back to this root of balance and sustainability, something so important in my life.

Here are a few articles and blog posts I came across talking about the concept of Lagom, if you would like some more insight into it:

https://medium.com/thrive-global/lagom-the-swedish-philosophy-for-living-a-happy-life-might-just-help-you-live-a-more-balanced-and-9bed612b4f7c (This blog post summarises Lagom in a great way, and expresses the relation between Lagom and finding more happiness and meaning in your life)

http://sorenandersson.com/a-lagom-lifestyle/ (Discussing Lagom in relation to environmental sustainability)

https://www.calmmoment.com/escaping/bring-balance-to-your-life-with-the-swedish-lagom-lifestyle-and-try-fika/ (Lagom in relation to work/life balance and how to bring more Lagom into your life)

The Podcast I briefly mentioned in the episode:

The Couragemakers Podcast – Meg Kissack. https://open.spotify.com/show/3AMOyWTvCRvXK2F2mr9w0v

I find the term ‘multipassionate’ that she uses a really lovely description, and for me having different outlets for my creativity, and different ways to help others is really important.

My freewriting shared at the end of the episode:

I want to escape this materialistic world.

Mass consumerism, clouded judgements, misplaced priorities.

I want to live in the absence of hatred, mistreatment centred around those deemed outside the norm of this moment of dictated societal values.

They are not my values.

I am sure they are not the values of many others either.

So why do they hold so much power? Why do we delegate it to them?

I want to help others realise the art of simplicity, of balance, of taking only that which you need, realising the good that comes from helping others, the strength and joy in connections.

Real, human connections.

Beyond material, more complex and innate, deeper than that which language attempts to express.

Why have we become so detached from what is truly important?

I think we all need to connect with a sense of undoing, stripping back the layers cast over us by our relation to consumerist society.

The judgement, the imbued desires, consumerism, greed.

Let them go and see what beauty arises in their absence. What a wonderful world that could be.
